A Few Words from the Administrator--
A Few Words from the Administrator--
We’re well into our new school year and doing great. It’s been exciting to become reacquainted with our returning students and to welcome those new to Woodbine.
All of our staff this year have returned from last year. I am very proud of our staff, each of whom possesses a wealth of knowledge, experience, compassion, and dedication. Each person is truly committed to implementing your child’s educational program and to making her/his first school experience a great one.
I hope your first experiences with Woodbine this year have been positive ones. We, the staff of Woodbine Preschool, look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education. There will be exciting times, as well as frustrating times. By working together, we can make this a great school year.
You can support your child’s educational program by participating in home visits with the teacher and by including various activities in your home routines. Your child’s teacher will assist you in identifying effective strategies that you, as your child’s first teacher, can use at home to enhance your child’s learning. Our teachers will also be eager to have you share with them your ideas and knowledge of your child.
We recognize the importance of the family-school connection in assuring your child’s success. Throughout the year, there will be several events in our
Family-School Connection series. There will be family events and parent workshops to provide you with information on a variety of topics. We hope you will join us for each event.
Another way to foster the Family-School Connection is through our website and your child’s teacher’s web page. Each teacher will maintain a web page to let you know what’s going on at school and to share learning strategies and activities with you. Be sure to check out our website along with the PWCS website often.
We invite each of you to volunteer at our school. There are many ways in which you can serve. Many of you have responded to the volunteer survey. If you haven’t and need another survey form, let us know.
Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions or concerns. I’ll also be calling you periodically to see how you think things are going. We’re off to a great start--it’s going to be a great year!

Dear Woodbine Parents and Families,
The new school year is off to a smooth start and we, the faculty and staff of Woodbine Preschool, are looking forward to a great year for your children—our students.
Woodbine’s staff has spent many hours during the summer preparing for this school year as they participated in professional development activities, readied our school building and grounds, and began planning and preparing for instruction. You can be assured that as the doors opened to welcome students on September 8, Woodbine was ready.
We know that this year will be one of new experiences and challenges for your child and for you, but we are confident that you will see your child grow and learn in many ways. We are partners in your child’s education. Because you know your child best, because you have the strongest bond with your child, and because you spend more time with your child, we value you as your child’s first and foremost teacher. We know that early intervention is key to student success. Early intervention begins in the home and is broader in scope than teacher/student interactions. Specialized instruction to address student IEP goals is provided by our teachers. Your follow-through with home activities reinforces this instruction and gives your child additional practice in developing new skills and helps him generalize those skills to other settings. Through home visits, parent meetings, and other activities, Woodbine’s teachers, with the support of other Woodbine staff, will
- consult with you to identify your child’s educational needs,
- help you develop strategies to be used in the home,
- provide you with the tools and materials needed to implement the strategies,
- and help you access information about your child’s disability and interventions.
Our first Family-School Connections event will be a Parent Workshop on October 1 at 7:00 at Woodbine. Ruth Ann Barnes, our speech/language pathologist, will speak with us on the topic of language development. There will be monthly Parent Workshops on such topics as reading to young children, development of fine motor skills, play skills, social skills, toilet training, encouraging positive behavior, and choosing appropriate toys. If there are other topics of interest to you, please let us know. We hope you will join us each month for these informative sessions which will also provide you with the opportunity to meet and share with other Woodbine parents. In addition, we encourage you to participate in events sponsored by the Parent Resource Center. The PRC can be a very valuable source of information for you.
We look forward to you partnering with us throughout this school year in helping your child meet his educational goals. Your role is as vital as that of our teachers and staff. Please let us know how we can further assist you. Thank you for joining us in this partnership.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Adams
