Woodbine Preschool Center, located mid-county, has been used as a special education preschool since 1973.
Educational programs for students enrolled at Woodbine are determined by the Child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), which determines the type of program, amount of services, related services, and instructional goals. The program models listed below are typical of those provided at Woodbine, but times and services may vary, depending on the individual needs of the students, as specified in the IEP.
The program models include preschool classbased, preschool resource, and preschool home/class combination. Educational services are provided by certified early childhood special education teachers. Related services, such as speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are provided by licensed therapists.
The classrooms and facilities are architecturally scaled to meet the needs of young children. Each classroom is equipped with telephones and intercoms. Computers, specially designed for use by young children, are available in each classroom, along with developmentally appropriate software. Adaptive equipment, as needed, is available for student use.
The main building contains classrooms, a multi-purpose room, the main office, the administrator's office, the bookkeeper's office, a therapy room and office space for the resource teachers. There are two modular units on our site that accommodate offices for our speech and language pathologist, school nurse, and custodian, a small library for student and staff use, and a staff lounge.
A multi-purpose room allows for indoor activities which promote gross motor development, as well as positive social interactions through play. This room also serves as a dining room for snacktime. Snacks follow the PWCS kindergarten snack menu and are prepared at a nearby school and delivered to Woodbine daily.
Our fenced playground has 2 modular play units designed for young children. Ramps make the play units accessible for all children. The modular units also include slides, 2 tunnels, a walking bridge, sand boxes (which are each covered by a canopy), developmentally appropriate and adaptive swings, and a paved area for other activities, such as riding tricycles.
We are very proud of our school facility which we believe addresses the needs of our students in a manner which is developmentally appropriate and child-friendly.
